My Story….

My professional story began in the Information Technology field.  Becoming more entrepreneurial, I launched my own small business as an I.T. consultant that spanned over 10 years.  Even though I was financially very successful, I was still feeling unfulfilled and questioning my purpose and my values. Those feelings were slightly alleviated by my passion for sea kayaking that in turn inspired me to become a Kayak Instructor. This brought me  immense joy and satisfaction as I received ongoing appreciation from students for an experience that allowed them to grow and expand their abilities on the water.

At this time, a friend recommended that I also look at meditation as a  method of dealing with stress and anxiety that accompanied my feelings of disillusionment.  I started taking meditation classes, connected with other like-minded individuals in the meditation community and volunteered at a meditation studio. I began to notice a profound change in my demeanour and those around me noticed as well.

A Marketing Diploma from the University of Toronto and subsequent work in that field addressed the financial commitments of my life, while I  continued to pursue this new passion through reading, learning and practicing meditative techniques.

 

COVID created a new global life challenge that on a personal level meant dealing with the death of my mother who was isolated in a nursing home. This offered me another perspective on the beauty and fragility of life and recognizing the value of personal connection.

After almost a decade of Marketing, I was once more at a crossroads in my life. Feeling a greater sense of calmness and awareness, I realized that my intrinsic sense of personal fulfilment occurred when I was providing others with a few simple tools that helped them feel better and more confident about their capabilities.

With this new found perspective, I decided to pivot my career path and offer a version of meditation based on the MBSR Mindful Based Stress Reduction techniques pioneered by Jon Kabit-Zin.
